Review for Mayan Blood (The Stone Legacy Series, #1) by Theresa DaLayne: ★★★★

Mayan Blood (The Stone Legacy Series, #1)Mayan Blood by Theresa DaLayne

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

::..Reviewed for Red's Midnight Readers..::

I was given an ARC copy of this novel via Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Zanya is an orphan living in an institute with no family, no last name and only one friend called Tara, to keep her sane. Suffering from night terrors every night, from which she awakes with new bruises and marks that no one believe are from the evil entities residing in her dream and not the result of her own self-harming.

One night, after a fire drill Zanya and her friend find themselves whisked by a guy named Renato. Where piece by piece her life starts to unravel....

This is the debut novel from Therese DaLayne and one I have been wanting to read for a while but I am not going to lie, it took me several attempts to get into this book but once I was resolved to sit down and read it, I found that around chapter 3 I didn't want to put it down.

This is the first novel I have read containing the Mayan civilization and I really enjoyed it. It is such a unique idea and I loved it! In particular I loved the way the author managed to weave the history into her story, it made for a very intriguing read.

I can't wait to know more about these characters and learn what is install for them.

I gave it four stars.

Blurb
Their empires have fallen, but their mythology lives on…

Zanya Coreandero is a seventeen-year-old orphan with only a single friend and no hope for a normal life. Diagnosed with anxiety and night terrors, no one believes her cuts and bruises are a result of an evil entity, and not a brutal case of self-harm.

With the only home she’s ever known being the isolated institution—where breakfast is a handful of medications, the psychiatry sessions are mandatory, and her every move is watched—the only relief is her red-haired roommate named Tara, who’s more like a little sister than her best friend.

Free will is strong, but destiny is stronger.

When Zanya is kidnapped, she meets a group of gifted Mayan descendants, each with a unique ability. Gone from a nameless castaway to the only hope of mankind, Zanya is forced to make a grueling decision: bond with an enchanted stone and save humanity from rising underworld forces, or watch helplessly as Earth falls victim to a familiar dark deity from her dreams. This time, he’s playing for keeps.

A wicked secret hides behind a handsome face…

When Arwan, a dark-eyed timebender, takes interest in Zanya's mission, it's unclear if his intention is to help, or if he's on a hell-bent mission for revenge. Wary of falling for another guy with major secrets and a tainted past, Zanya fights to keep her distance. If only her heart gave her a choice.

***Reprint comment*** The book title and the main character's name has been changed from Stone Guardian to Mayan Blood, and from Ashley to Zanya. Some reviews or comments may reflect the change, others will not.
